How to Stay Safe this Flu Season.

November 19, 2024

Hey there, wonderful community!

I’m back! As you might have seen from my last post, I mentioned I was feeling really unwell and had caught the flu. Honestly, it hit me harder than I expected, I was stuck in bed for days, barely able to get up. I can’t even remember the last time I was this sick. Whatever this was, it definitely left me out of IT for a while!

I’m still not 100% recovered, but at least I’m feeling a bit more like myself now, able to gather my thoughts and get back to doing things (other than just trying to breathe, lol).

So, now that I know this sneaky little flu (or whatever it was!) is going around, I wanted to share a few tips to help you stay healthy and avoid getting hit like I did:

  • Eat antioxidants: Load up on berries, leafy greens, and other antioxidant-rich foods. They help boost your immune system and fight off nasty bugs.

  • Vitamin C is your friend: Whether it’s oranges, strawberries, or a supplement, vitamin C is so important for supporting your immune system.

  • Drink tons of water: Staying hydrated is key to flushing out toxins and supporting your body’s natural defenses.

  • Get that Vitamin D: With less sunlight around, it’s super important to get enough vitamin D. Try to soak up some sun when you can, and also eat foods like egg yolks, mushrooms, salmon, canned tuna, and beef liver.

  • Keep moving: It might sound counterintuitive, but staying active helps reduce inflammation, fights off disease, and boosts the circulation of your white blood cells (your body’s little warriors against illness). So, even if it’s a short walk or stretching, keep moving when you can!

  • Practice good hygiene: Sounds basic, but it’s so important! shower daily, wash your hands before eating, and always wash your hands before inserting contact lenses or touching your eyes/mouth.

  • Sharing isn’t always caring: I know it’s hard, but try not to share food, drinks, or utensils, especially right now. As much as we love to share with friends and family, germs spread quickly and you definitely don’t want to pass on any germs!

Stay healthy, everyone, and take care of yourselves. I’ll be posting more soon as I fully recover, but in the meantime, take these tips to heart! 🧡✨

With Love,

Safaa.
