First Days
The Struggles of Beginning Your Wellness Journey.

The first days of anything can be hard. First day of uni, work, eating healthy, working out, whatever it may be. It takes up your whole mental and physical strength.
Today was the first day of restarting my wellness journey. To begin with I thought I’ll go easy on myself and go for a walk. But for me, to get up and get out of my house took a long time. I stalled for as long as possible. The couch tried everything possible to try and get me to stay a bit longer on it. As hard as it was to leave it, I knew I had to. I put on my workout clothes and shoes and stood there just wondering if I really need to do this right now or just watch tv for a bit and go later. But I knew if not now I’ll never do it. So I dragged myself out totally annoyed at myself for deciding to be healthy. But as soon as I stepped out I noticed that the weather was kinda nice. It was breezy with the perfect amount of sun that I enjoy and I thought wait a minute the weather is beautiful! And with that positive thought I took off. My goal was to do 10,000 steps but since it was my first day I took it easy and did around 8,000 and in between my steps I realised that my mood has changed and I felt uplifted and really happy that I didn’t just stay in my couch but got some vitamin D and the steps to getting healthier !
So, what I would like to say is take small steps. Go for a walk, it doesn’t even have to be outdoors. It’s good for you.
Put on your walking shoes and earphones, play songs or podcasts or whatever inspires you, or even try chanting little mantras or prayers as you walk. And trust me when you finish your walk, you are gonna feel so good that you wanna do it again!
